The Great Delusions of success

"Life is difficult". What is most surprising, is that, for many people, this is a revelation! Go to any business networking event, or meet a potential client - especially during the current economic situation and they will be moaning incessantly about the enormity of their problems, burdens or difficulties as if life should be easy.

The long and difficult road to success

There are a whole lot of myths and legends about achieving success, but as Seth Golden points out in Permission Marketing, "There's no such thing as an overnight opera sensation. Great firm's don't spring up overnight. They've been built the same way - bit by bit, step by step, little by little. Is there a road to success?

Keep on keeping on

You are committed to achieving your success and if you've been on the journey for any length of time, you already know that there are no short-cuts. We have to commit ourselves to completing the journey and every time you make a commitment to anything, it will be tested!

Profiting from tough times

The majority of start up businesses fail within the first year! Many of these should have succeeded. They had a good product or service, an decent marketing plan and committed people. Yet they failed because the business was either unprofitable or, more frequently, ran out of cash. Most of all, they neglected to stick to their values.

Your learning agility impacts your potential!

Your learning agility impacts your potential and performance. But what is it, how do you identify people who have learning agility?

Loosen your grip and have more control!

What helps distinguish leaders and managers is about control and, quite literally, how "hands-on" you are.

When you first learn the game of golf, the chances are that you grip thew club tightly. After all this is basically holding onto a stick that you will swing through the air and hit a ball. All… Continue

Motivation direction - how it affects your game

Many successful players are motivated by their own dissatisfaction with their performance. It can be a very powerful motivator. You would expect someone who is thus motivated to improve their game to be similarly motivated in other aspects of their life.

Do you see a golf course as a series of obstacles to be avoided, or do you see the fairways and greens as the thing to hit. There are a few people who actually aim for the obstacles because they excel at the tricky shots - something discussed i… Continue

Overthinking disrupts golf putt

BBC NEWS | UK | Scotland | Edinburgh, East and Fife | Overthinking ‘disrupts golf putt’.

Interesting little experiment.

What is not clear though is exactly what they were thinking (and talking!) about. If they were thinking (and talking!) about fluffed shots - then it is hardly surprising that that they got worse.

Anyone who’s taken our Mind Advantage program would know that you do NOT repeat and go on an… Continue

Goal setting - is it necessary in golf or is it just a myth?

For far too long, consultants, trainers, guru’s and leaders have been misleading us about goal setting. We keep hearing the same myth that people with written goals achieve greater success in life. I fell foul of this story myself - after all, it cam from the pages of a famous author and… Continue

The hardest thing in golf is NOT hitting the ball.

Many people who play golf have never taken a lesson!
They get introduced to the game by a friend or family member and learn to play by going along to the golf course and playing.
When you learn this way, by instinct as it were, you develop a muscle memory of your technique and a discovery process of what works and what doesn’t, hopefully repeating the positive patterns that achieve roughly what you want to achieve. Someone who finds that their ‘natural” swing slices the ball, will compens… Continue

Aptitude + Attitude = Altitude

Jimmy Conners, winner of 109 professional singles tennis titles says “There’s a thin line between being #1 or #100 and mostly it’s mental.”

In his well-researched book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman shows that it’s our attitude more than our aptitude that determines our altitude. Whilst our society lauds intellectual giants and power, Goleman’s research concludes, “At best, IQ contributes about 20 percent to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80 percent to o

Cause or effect?

Are you at cause for influencing yourself to greater things or are you at the effect of others, the environment and the outside world. Are you a thermometer, or a thermostat?

In golf, there are only two things that affect your game. Yes, sorry, just the two things. The first is physics. The golf ball, your clubs, how you swing your club, the course, are all subject to the laws of physics.

You might say that the weather changes the way the ball behaves. Yes indeed it can and does, cool air temp… Continue
